The series begins as Sara Stanley (Sarah Polley) is forced to live with her deceased mother's relatives, the King Family, in the charming town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. Sara's story is intertwined with many unforgettable L.M. Montgomery characters from the cast of the original Anne of Green Gables mini-series, as Sara's journey down the Road to Avonlea takes her and the entire King Family through tales of romance and fantasy, tragedy and comedy.
Sara and her cousins continue to wreak havoc and land in trouble, much to the adults’ dismay and disapproval. The second season is a treasure trove of adventure, mystery, romance, family rivalry and comedy.
Season Three of the award winning television series: Olivia’s simple wedding plans get wildly out of hand and Sara trades places with a street-smart waif that passes as her double. Full of laughter and heartbreak, this season sets the tone for the rest of the series.
In the fourth season of Road to Avonlea Olivia and Jasper await the birth of their first baby. Hetty King resigns from teaching to purse a writing career and develops a secret friendship with the new schoolteacher, Clive Pettibone. Sara experiences her first adolescent heartache when she falls for an aging Wild West show cowboy, played by Treat Williams; while Felicity's relationship with Gus Pike becomes serious and she must decide between him and Arthur Pettibone, the new boy next door.
Sara has blossomed into an independent and self-assured young lady, but one that still has a penchant for trouble. Now a fully-integrated member of Avonlea society, she begins to think about the day she must leave the security of her new home. Once again, the stories in this volume range from uproariously funny to poignantly emotional.
Road to Avonlea takes on a more mature tone this season as the characters of Avonlea grow and continue to face overwhelming hardships, as well as pleasant surprises. Sara Stanley shocks Avonlea when she announces she is leaving to study in Paris, and Felicity King finally accepts Gus’s proposal of marriage –only to learn that he is lost at sea.
Road to Avonlea’s seventh and final season is the dramatic culmination of over seven years of excellence in dramatic programming. In this season, the King family copes with difficult personal and community changes that threaten to change their lives forever.
